Asthma

Many people suffer from a chronic illness in the lungs called asthma, which is generally an inflammation of the airways. In fact, there are more than 25 million people in the United States alone suffering from this disease, and many others suffer from related complications. Asthma is characterized by heavy breathing, severe coughing, chest pains and many other problems. It also can affect any person regardless of age, and severe cases can occur in childhood. Nonetheless, it can be treated if the condition has been diagnosed correctly.

Types

Adult Asthma

Asthma for adults is also a chronic condition that could be debilitating, and even fatal, as it progresses. In addition, the symptoms are more persistent and potent at this stage compared with the ones found in children. Specifically, it is called adult-onset asthma, meaning this condition was triggered later in life. It usually begins in late adulthood when the immune system and body are far weaker. If not treated, however, adult-onset asthma could result in severe respiratory conditions, which could put a person’s life at risk.

Childhood Asthma

There is no actual difference between the asthma in children and adults. In other words, the airways of the person are still affected similarly. However, sufferers are faced with a unique challenge during attacks. In fact, these have prompted many emergency visits to the hospital and the disruption of school attendance.

Sinus Infection

A sinus infection, or sinusitis, often occurs with asthma. In fact, more than half of the people suffering from asthma are also suffering from chronic sinusitis. Asthma is already a difficult experience, and sinusitis complicates matters. If not treated effectively, it could stay for several months and even develop into a worse condition. The good news is that sinusitis, along with asthma, can be treated by using effective and aggressive methods.
